Hip-hop was a cultural movement. It emerged in the early 1970s from the South Bronx. Hip-hop came from the ââ¬Å"ghettoâ⬠and it became a cultural force of social protest and creativity. But from the 1990s and onward hip-hop changed from a cultural creative production to one of mass consumption. Hip-hop began to grow and through mass marketing targeting larger and whiter audiences hip-hop evolved in to relying on the images of crime and sex. Hip-hop has changed from a tool of social change to cars, women, and drugs. There is a gap between the civil rights movement and the newer hip-hop generation. This is not to say that there are not artists in the hip-hop community that talk about things that need to change such as racism, exploitation of theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦He tells the reader that hip-hop has grown from a musical genre to a style of dress, dialect, language, aesthetic, and a way of living. Aldrige says that over the past three decades hip-hop has developed an d is not a fad that will disappear but a cultural and artistic expression that will continue to grow throughout the world. He believes that hip-hop has a message that is artistic and has influenced many artistic and cultural movements such as blues, jazz, the New Negro Reaissance, the Civil Rights, Black Power, and Black Arts Movements. This article provides a historical analysis of hip-hop. He also talks about influential writing on the genre of hip-hop. This article provides historical information about hip-hop. It talks about how hip-hop has changed and it provides support through many other writings written on the subject.
